
General Information:
Teaching Assistants play a critical role in UNIV by providing a student perspective, facilitating topics, and providing input regarding the curriculum. As a Teaching Assistant you’ll share your experience transitioning into UMBC, telling new students about your successes, challenges, lessons learned, and resources you used along the way.
Expectations and Compensation:
Teaching Assistants will receive the TA Paraprofessional Meta-Badge for participation and a stipend if they meet the expectations of their role – these expectations include:
- Attend and participate in all required TA training sessions
- May Meet and Greet
- August Online Training Modules
- Fall TA Training
- Attend and participate in monthly meetings and reflections
- Attend and participate in every class session
- Role model class participation for students and demonstrate appropriate classroom behavior and a high level of professionalism in their interactions
- Communicate concerns to the instructor in a timely manner
- Utilize the UNIV Steering Committee for additional support as needed
- Instructors will provide support through:
- Assisting in ensuring that TAs are given a leadership role in the classroom
- Discussing the TA’s goals before the start of the semester and work together to determine ways to meet these goals throughout the semester

This opportunity is open to any and all students who have a minimum 3.0GPA, have good academic standing, and have taken UNIV101 or UNIV301 previously. We accept nominations from UNIV Instructors so if you are interested in applying, contact your UNIV101/301 instructor.
