Barbara A. Smith began her career at UMBC in 1999 on a temporary assignment and was hired as an Administrative Assistant for Hilltop Institute formerly Center for Health Program Development and Management (CHPDM). She worked in the Provost Office while in interim roles for Institutional Research and the Learning Resources Center, and served on the Shared Services planning committee. Among her roles with the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE), Barbara provided supervision and career mentoring to student staff.

Served as the Program Management Specialist in Academic Engagement and Transition Programs (AETP), formerly OUE, supporting first and second year and transfer student programs and departmental budget management.

Barbara is currently the Executive Administrative Assistant in AETP. Providing support to the Assistant Vice Provost and Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Academic Affairs and the AETP team.

Received a diploma with highest honors from the Stratford Career Institute for completing the Business Management course. She received a digital badge for completion of UMBC’s Personal Leadership and Project Management Cohort-III 2018-2019, and completion of many other professional development courses, webinars and seminars.

Barbara received the 2015-2016 Karen L. Wench Endowment Award for Outstanding Non- Exempt Staff. She serves on the Non-Exempt Staff Senate, and co-lead a subgroup for the Middle States Commission for Higher Education (MSCHE).
