Gavin joined UMBC in 2020 as the Coordinator for First-Year Academic Programs in Academic Engagement and Transition Programs (AETP). In his current role, he works with the Director to implement and coordinate several transition programs for first-year and incoming UMBC Students primarily with Dawg Days: Jumpstart, Discovery Scholars & Individualizes Study Living-Learning Communities. In addition, Gavin also assists with the planning and execution of several First-Year Experience courses Including Introduction to the University (UNIV). In addition, Gavin is responsible for assessment initiatives across AETP’s first year programs.

Gavin joins the AETP Team at UMBC after receiving his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, followed by an M.Ed. in Higher Education and Student Affairs from the University of South Carolina. While at U of SC, Gavin studied systems of higher education and the first-year student experience including research and practice as it relates to coordinating student experiences and elevating retention.
