Getting the Most Out of Your Transfer Experience

✅ Attend a transfer student workshop hosted by our Transfer Student Network Leaders. These events are the perfect way to meet other transfer students, learn about campus resources, and connect with transfer student peer mentors!

✅ Swing by Off-Campus Student Services in the Commons and check out the lounge space! This is a great place to study, eat lunch, or hang out between classes.

✅ Review your transfer credit report and degree audit on your myUMBC profile to see how your previous credits have been applied to your degree plan at UMBC! Any questions about the way your credits were received? Talk to your academic advisor!

✅ Take a Transfer Student Seminar (TRS), Introduction to an Honors University Seminar (IHU), or a First Year Seminar (FYS). These one and three credit academic classes support transfer students in connecting quickly to UMBC, starting strong in their major, and honing their academic success skills.

✅ Want to be recognized for your outstanding academic achievement? Join the Tau Sigma National Honor Society. This prestigious national honor society is specifically for transfer students.

✅ Complete the Scholarship Retriever and FAFSA in December. Did you know that there are scholarships just for transfer students at UMBC?

✅ Take the 096 Community Service & Learning Practicum through the Shriver Center. You’ll gain leadership skills through community engagement and participation in this zero-credit pass/fail course. You’ll also receive a notation on your transcript for completing community service.

✅ Create your Handshake profile and upload your resume! Handshake is UMBC’s job and internship search platform. You can find opportunities on and off-campus to boost your resume!

✅ Attend an in-person career fair hosted by the Career Center. You’ll get to meet multiple diferent employers and gather information about potential job opportunities. Don’t forget to get a business card from employers you talk to!

✅ Visit OCA Mocha Cafe, UMBC’s community coffee shop located in Arbutus. Ask for the OCA Mocha signature drink!

✅ Attend Study Abroad 101 through the Education Abroad Office. This is the first step on your journey abroad! You’ll learn all the ins and outs of the different programs. Study Abroad 101 attendance is required and a pre-requisite to both a private advising session with a staff member and applying for a program.

✅ Participate in Transfer Student Week! Every year, this week is full of events dedicated to appreciating and supporting transfer students.

✅ Visit the Joseph Beuy’s Sculpture Park. Check out the journals in the benches!
